Hasang Korean School Traditional Drum Team
Wonyong Chong, Director, earned a Bachelor of Dance Art in Korean Dance from Sejong University in Seoul, Korea and she has trained under renowned advisors.
Her performance credits include the International Festival in France (1992), the National Theater of Korea (1990–1994), and the Kennedy Center (2003–2010). Since 2006, Ms. Chong has taught Korean Traditional Dance at Hasang Korean School in Fairfax, VA, inspiring students with various dance forms, such as Ogomu and Buchaechum. She is passionate about sharing Korean culture and considers teaching her calling.
The Hasang Korean School Traditional Drum Team is made up of talented children who have a deep appreciation for Korean culture, art, and music. Every Saturday, after Korean School, they learn and enjoy traditional Korean dance forms (한국무용), including Ogomu (오고무), Bukchum (북춤), and Buchaechum (부채춤). Wonyong Chong, the director, has been leading and teaching these children and youth since 2006.
Founded in 1995, Hasang Korean School is affiliated with St. Paul Chung Catholic Church in Fairfax, VA. The school provides Korean-American children and youth with valuable opportunities to learn about their language and culture. Through dedicated effort and passion, our teachers help students connect with their Korean heritage through language, art, music, and dance. As a result, Hasang Korean School is recognized as one of the premier educational institutions for Korean language and culture in the D.C. area.
The school continues its mission to provide resources and programs that promote understanding of Korean culture and heritage, while fostering Korean-American contributions to
society through collaboration with students, parents, teachers, and the community.
