As a seasoned media executive and award-winning producer, Catherine Kim leads the editorial units and digital teams of NBC News, driving editorial strategy, setting priorities and ensuring excellence across breaking news, politics, national and international desks, business, health, climate, investigations, national security, law enforcement, entertainment, diversity journalism and culture. She oversees teams of reporters, editors and producers across various bureaus, disciplines and areas of expertise. She also partners closely with the domestic and foreign bureaus of NBC News, working with senior leadership and journalists across major stories and storylines. Catherine possesses rare experience working in both video and text-based journalism and has leveraged that fluency to demonstrate exceptional management and leadership skills across a vast, dynamic and matrixed news organization.
Catherine’s strong communication skills, growth mindset and business acumen were critical in her drive to transform a fledgling NBC News Digital in 2015 into a top-five news destination, building and leading digital teams, and developing successful digital and social media strategies to drive NBC News’ growth. Before building the digital newsroom, Catherine gained extensive experience in several major facets of media, including prime-time news magazines, morning television, live programming, cable and evening newscasts. She has held senior roles at “NBC Nightly News” with Lester Holt, “Rock Center” with Brian Williams, and CNN’s “American Morning.” She started her career at CBS News, working at “Sunday Morning,” “60 Minutes,” and the “CBS Evening News” with Katie Couric.
Catherine is an Emmy, a Peabody and a duPont award-winning journalist. In 2023, she was recognized with the prestigious Loren Tobia Leadership Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association and currently holds a seat on the Overseas Press Club’s board.
Catherine began her career moonlighting as a reporter for the education news service Channel One. She graduated from New York University with a degree in journalism and lives in Brooklyn with her husband, son and goldendoodle, Bear.
